Heavily soiled parts: where should you start?

Oil, grease and deposits on machine parts make inspection and maintenance harder. Where a component can be removed and immersed in a cleaning bath, immersion and soaking may be worth considering — after confirming product compatibility with the material and the washer's requirements.

In ENYRUN's experience, CL 201 works well for cleaning heavily soiled machine parts by immersion and soaking. This describes practical use reported by ENYRUN, not the results of a documented laboratory test or a guarantee of identical results for every component. Concentration, temperature and contact time must be selected for the specific process.

What does the CL 201 technical data sheet confirm?

CL 201 — Water-Based Alkaline Cleaner is a concentrated cleaning and degreasing product. Its technical data sheet lists machinery, steel parts, chains, gear assemblies and mechanical components, as well as removal of dried oil and grease residues.

The document lists manual cleaning, automatic cleaning machines and tunnel washing systems. It does not specify detailed immersion-cleaning conditions. Practical experience supplements this information but does not replace instructions for a particular bath.

Immersion and soaking: what information is needed?

  • The component material, coating type and any seals or other parts present.
  • The type and severity of contamination: oil, grease, deposits or mixed residues.
  • The washer model and the manufacturer's requirements for cleaning products.
  • Whether the bath can be heated and whether the liquid circulates.
  • The required result and the subsequent use of the cleaned component.

Use this information to confirm the working concentration, temperature, soaking time, rinsing and drying methods, and any protection required after cleaning. We do not give a universal recipe for an unidentified component.

The reference to a 2% solution in the supplied TDS concerns a pH measurement — it is not a recommendation for preparing a working bath. See our guide to determining the dilution of CL 201 for more detail.

Can every component be immersed?

Compatibility must be checked for the entire component, including coatings and seals. Instructions for one material must not be transferred to another.

Do not use CL 201 on aluminium without written confirmation from the manufacturer. The supplied technical data sheet mentions aluminium parts, but the safety data sheet lists aluminium as an incompatible material. This discrepancy needs clarification; experience with other components does not resolve it.

Organising a safe workstation

A water-based formulation is not necessarily harmless to skin or materials. The safety data sheet identifies risks of metal corrosion, severe skin burns and eye damage. Select protective equipment and working procedures according to the current SDS, label and washer instructions.

Do not treat a used cleaning bath as ordinary water. Prevent the product from entering drains and watercourses; determine waste handling from the current documentation and site procedures.

Ask about CL 201 for your washer

Describe the component material, contamination, washer model and planned operating conditions. This allows product suitability and process requirements to be confirmed. See the CL 201 product page or request selection advice and a quotation.
